Corabia
Corabia is a small Danube port located in Olt County, used to be part of the now dissolved Romanaţi county pre WW-2. It is a "Frontier Town" with Bulgaria sitting on the other side of the Danube.
Originally called "Corabia" after being built from the remains of wrecked ships (Corabia means "Galley" in Romanian) it became a considerable manufacturing town in communist times with such things as a Sugar Mill and various other plants. However in more recent times the city's population has dwindled and it has closed a lot of those factories with its inhabitants finding bigger centres to relocate to.
Corabia is still one of the central points of Olt county with other small hamlets & villages such as "Ştefan cel Mare" and "Celei" depending on it as an administrative centre. In the town there is a football club, several shops & bars and a formidable Orthodox Cathedral as well as monumental statue in the middle of town square.
