Corinium
Corinium is the name of the Roman town that stood on the site that is now occupied by the town of Cirencester. Corinium was Roman Britain's second largest city. It stood at the intersection of a number of Roman Roads including the Fosse Way and the Whiteway or Salt way.
There are many Roman remains in the surrounding area, including several Roman Villas near the villages of Chedworth and Withington.
