Cytostatic
Cytostatic is a drug that inhibits or prevents growth and replication of cells. On the basis of their action, cytostatics can be divided into four groups:
- alkylating agents
- antimetabolites
- cytotoxic antibiotics
- inhibitors of the division spindle
These drugs are used to kill cancer cells and in immunosuppression therapy after the organ transplantation. Important examples of cytostatics are ciclosporin, cyclophosphamide, methothrexate , azathioprine, dactinomycin , vincristin and others.
