Dalton City is located at 39°42'49" North, 88°48'20" West (39.713487, -88.805596).
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 581 people, 212 households, and 170 families residing in the village. The population density is 361.8/km² (941.7/mi²). There are 224 housing units at an average density of 139.5/km² (363.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.62% White, 0.52% African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 0.17% from two or more races. 1.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 212 households out of which 44.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.8% are married couples living together, 6.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.8% are non-families. 17.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
