Damiano Cunego

Damiano Cunego (born September 19, 1981) is a professional cyclist from Verona, Italy. He rides for the Italian-based Saeco team (to be known as Lampre-Caffitta as of 2005).

He shot to fame during May in the 2004 cycling season, sensationally winning the Giro d'Italia at the age of 22. He went on to win the Giro di Lombardia World Cup race in October in the same year, his thirteenth victory of the season. He has finished the 2004 season ranked number one in the UCI's individual world rankings, making him the youngest rider ever to achieve this, aged just 23. He was also the last rider ranked first on the world ranking, because in 2005 the world ranking will be no more.
