Daniel Alfredsson, #11 is a professional ice hockey player born on 11 December 1972 in Gothenburg, Västra Götalands län, Sweden and Captain of the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League. He plays right wing with the Senators, usually on the first line.
Drafted 168th overall Alfredsson was a remarkable find by the Senators. In his first season in the NHL in 1996 he won the Calder Memorial Trophy for rookie of the year and has consistently been one of the leagues top players. Known as a high scorer with grit and leadership abilities he was made captain of the team in 1998 when Alexei Yashin refused to play.
He missed the start of the 2002-03 season when he held out for more money, but returned on a brief two year contract. In 2004 he was signed for five year thirty-five million dollar deal that would see him play with the Senators for the rest of his career.
He is easily recognizable around the league for his long curly hair that sticks out below his helmet, and also for the large mustache he wears during the playoffs.
