Danish colonial empire
In various forms, Denmark has had colonial possessions since the beginning of the 13th century, including the Danish West Indies,Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Tranquebar in India.
The only remaining vestige of this empire, and its only ever substantial territory, is that of Greenland, whose colonial status ceased in 1953.
