Database publishing
Database Publishing is used as an synonym in the area of databased automated mediaproduction or variable data publishing. Main focus is the making up of pricelists and catalouges.
The basic idea: using database contents like article and price informations in open layout documents and in case of changes, without further manuel workarrounds. perform a quick update.
The main layout applications for this workflow are: Adobe FrameMaker / InDesign und QuarkXPress. Other variants od Database Publishing are the rendering of content for a direct printable pdf-output.
The actual layout applications offers also a XML-connectivty. With sript languages like: Apple Script, Java Script und Visual Basic it is possible to use XML for automted layouts.
Most of the layout applications can be add with plug-ins and XTension to connect database and their content. They use ASCII-text, like tabtext or CSV-formates.
