David Givens
David Lamar Givens (born August 16, 1980 in Youngstown, Ohio) is a wide receiver for the New England Patriots. He wears #87. Was a 7th round pick from Notre Dame after a disappointing collegiate career.
After an unremarkable rookie year in which he caught 9 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown, Givens blossomed into one of the Patriots' most reliable receivers. He caught 34 passes for 510 yards and led the team with 6 touchdown receptions in 2003. In 2004 he caught a team high 56 passes for 874 yards and 3 touchdowns. Givens has also caught 1 touchdown pass in each of the team's last five playoff games, dating back to the 2003 AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Givens' powerful build and physical style of play at the Wide Receiver position has elicited comparisons to Pittsburgh Steelers star Hines Ward.
