David Morgan-Mar

David Morgan-Mar (A.K.A. "DangerMouse" or "DM") is a Ph.D. graduate from the University of Sydney, Australia, best known online for Irregular Webcomic! and for creating several humorous esoteric programming languages. He is also the author of several GURPS roleplaying sourcebooks for Steve Jackson Games, as well as a regular contributor to Pyramid magazine.

The languages he has created have had varying degrees of popularity. Some of them are full Turing-complete languages while others are simple jokes.

  • BIT - a language that treats all data like C treats strings.
  • Chef - a language where the programs produce magnificent meals.
  • Haifu - a language based on Eastern philosophy and artistic values.
  • HQ9++ - a language which extends the elegance of HQ9+ to the object-oriented paradigm.
    • (Based on the joke language HQ9+ by Cliff Biffle ).
  • Ook! - a language designed for orang-utans.
  • Piet programming language - a language where the programs are works of modern art.
  • Whenever - a language with no sense of urgency.
