Davidson College

Davidson College is a highly-selective independent liberal arts college for 1,600 students in Davidson, North Carolina. Since its establishment in 1837, the college has graduated 23 Rhodes Scholars and is consistently ranked in the top ten liberal arts colleges in the country by U.S. News and World Report magazine.

The campus is located on Lake Norman close to Charlotte, North Carolina. Bobby Vagt is the president of Davidson and the school remains dedicated to providing a liberal arts education. It is lovingly referred to as the "Princeton of the South." Woodrow Wilson attended Davidson College before moving to Princeton to continue his studies. Dean Rusk, the United States Secretary of State from 1961-1969, also attended school at Davidson.

For its 2005 residency, the Royal Shakespeare Company is at Davidson College, performing The Two Gentlemen of Verona and Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, as well as numerous educational activities, many of which are open to the general public. In 2006 and 2008, the RSC will not present plays; they will only conduct educational programs. They will next perform plays in Davidson's Duke Family Performance Hall in 2007.

Davidson's sports teams are known as the Wildcats and their colors are red and black. The Wildcats participate in NCAA's Division I (Division I-AA for football) and the Southern Conference for basketball.
