Derek Johnstone
Derek Johnstone (born November 4, 1953) is a former professional football (soccer) player who played for Rangers F.C.. He also had a brief spell at Chelsea F.C. and a brief spell in management with Partick Thistle F.C..
Johnstone, a boyhood Rangers supporter, signed for the Ibrox team as a schoolboy in 1968. Johnstone was famously thrown into the 1970-1971 Scottish League Cup final by manager Jock Wallace aged just 16. The brave decision by Wallace was to pay off as he headed the winner as Rangers triumphed 1-0 against Celtic. Johnstone went on to have an amazing career with Rangers, scoring 210 goals in 546 appearances and winning the League Championship three times, the Scottish League Cup five times, the Scottish Cup five times and the Cup Winners Cup in 1972.
He currently works for the Scottish media.
