Des'ree
Des'ree Weeks (born November 30, 1968 in London) was one of Britain's most successful pop/soul vocalists throughout the 1990s. Her 1992 debut album Mind Adventures spawned the minor hit single 'Feel So High'.
She released a similar, but stronger, album in 1994, I Ain't Movin . The attendant single 'You Gotta Be' hit Billboard Top 5 and was a hit in the UK three times. She contributed to the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack in 1996. 1998's 'Supernatural' included the European top 10 hit 'Life' and a duet with Babyface titled 'Fire'. Her 2003 release 'Dream Soldier' was considerably less successful.
You Gotta Be was also a major hit in the United States, and it was featured in the movie The Next Karate Kid, starring Hilary Swank.
In 1999, she won a Brit Award for the British Female Solo Artist catagory.
