Destination restaurant

A destination restaurant is a restaurant with a chef or cuisine famous enough to be the reason patrons travel to a locale to experience the restaurant. In Europe such a restaurant might be a Michelin Guide 3-star restaurant, which according to the guide is "worthy of a journey." There are typically 20-25 such restaurants in a country such as France.

In the United States, destination restaurants are typically among the country's best. They are often located outside of major metropolitan centers and rely on their renown to draw patrons. Destination restaurants often serve multi-course, prix fixe menus. Because of the complexity of the food and the large staffs, prices can be high.
