Deutsche Volksunion
Deutsche Volksunion (DVU) (German Peoples Union) is a German right-wing party. It was founded by publisher Gerhard Frey as an informal association in 1971 and established as a party in 1987. The party is watched by the Verfassungsschutz.
As of 2004, the party has never reached the minimum 5% of votes in federal elections necessary to enter the Bundestag; it has, however, been able to enter several state parliaments.
In 2004, the DVU entered a non-competition agreement with right-wing party NPD for the state elections in Brandenburg and Saxony. Both parties were successful in their chosen state, the DVU reaching 6.1% in the Brandenburg election and the NPD claiming 9.2% in the Saxony election. After their success, the parties stated they would run on a single platform in the 2006 federal election.
