Dinar
A five-Iraqi dinar note featuring Saddam Hussein
The word Dinar (in Arabic and Persian: دينار) traces its origin back to the Roman currency, the denarius (pl. denarii).
Numerous countries today use Dinar as the name for their currencies:
- Algeria: See Algerian dinar
- Bahrain: See Bahraini dinar
- Iran: A dinar is officially one hundredth part of an Iranian Rial

- Jordan: See Jordanian dinar

Most of the countries using dinar as the name of their currency are Arabic-speaking or were once part of the Ottoman Empire.
