Doctor Snuggles

Doctor Snuggles was a Dutch cartoon series. Thirteen half hour episodes were made since it started in 1980. The original artwork was made by Nick Price, original scripts and ideas by Jeffrey O'Kelly , television scripts by Richard Carpenter. Two shows (7 and 12) were written by Douglas Adams and John Lloyd.

Dr Snuggles is a kind old gentleman who lives in the forest in his house with his elderly housekeeper, Mrs Nettles. He invents a lot: A housekeeping robot in (1), the wormmobile in (4), a machine to restore the colours of the rainbow in (6), a gadget to fight depression in (9) and a time machine in (13), amongst others. The cast include a mouse, a badger, a postman-bird, a talking garden shed, Uncle Bill, the dream sheep, Woogie, the camel living in the clouds, to name a few.

A nice, friendly, optimistic, mostly harmless series.

The titles of the episodes were:

  1. The Fabulous Mechanical Mathilda Junkbottom
  2. The Astounding Treacle Tree
  3. The Spectacular Rescue of Miss Nettles
  4. The Unbelievable Wormmobile
  5. The Sensational Balloon Race
  6. The Magical Multicoloured Diamond
  7. The Remarkable Fidgety River
  8. The Fearful Miscast Spell of Winnie the Witch
  9. The Extraordinary Odd Dilemma Of Dennis the Badger
  10. The Wondrous Powers of the Magic Casket
  11. The Turn of Events with the Unwelcome Invaders
  12. The Great Disappearing Mystery
  13. The Amazing Reflective Myth

In the United Kingdom the character of Dr Snuggles was narrated by Peter Ustinov.
