Don Juan Tenorio
Don Juan Tenorio: Drama religioso-fantástico en dos partes (Don Juan Tenorio: Religio-Fantastic Drama in Two Parts), is a play published in 1844 by José Zorrilla.
A Romance interpretation of the Don Juan story, it shifts away from the moralistic theme of Tirso de Molina's original play. Don Juan is now more charmer than burlador, or trickster. He is a likeable, swashbuckling rogue who ultimately finds true love, with the object of which he stays until his death. This carefree character is much more attractive than Molina's original and highlights the manner in which the values for which archetypes stand can evolve or be interpreted differently in varying cultural contexts.
