Dormition Church
The Dormition Church, situated on Mount Zion outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem, facing the Zion Gate , was built between 1906 and 1910, after Sultan Hamid gave this plot of land to Kaiser Wilhelm II as a gift.
According to Christian beliefs, this is the place where Mary, the mother of Jesus "fell asleep" here, hence the full name of the Church: Dormitio Beatae Mariae Virginis. Dormition is derived from the Latin for "sleep".
The church is located near King David's Tomb .
