Duaringa, Queensland
Duaringa is a small town in central Queensland, Australia, 116 km to the West of Rockhampton.
Duaringa is a local centre for the region's farmers, who cultivate sorghum and wheat, and graze beef cattle. The region suffers from widespread environmental degradation due to farming. The nearest rivers are the Dawson (twelve kilometres to the East) and the Mackenzie (eighteen kilometres to the North). It is the administrative centre for the local Duaringa Shire Council. The Shire includes vast coal deposits at Blackwater, fifty kilometers to the West. It suffers from periodic droughts and floods, with Summer temperatures soaring to forty-five Celsius.
Duaringa is also a significant centre for indigenous people; there is a former reservation at Woorabinda . Indigenous people were granted small parcels of land under Queensland native title legislation. There is a National Park at Carnarvon Gorge where there are aboriginal art sites.
