Durham Tees Valley Airport (IATA airport code: MME, ICAO airport code: EGNV) is located six miles east of Darlington, in North East England. It is one of the UK's smaller airports and is mainly used for chartered flights, although there are a growing number of scheduled flights available. The airport is owned by a consortium of local authorities and Peel Holdings PLC.
Previously called Teesside International Airport, it was renamed Durham Tees Valley Airport on 21st September 2004 as part of a redevelopment plan.
Previously, Durham Tees Valley was a RAF base, RAF Middleton-St-George which at one time housed Lancaster bombers. In 1963, the airfield was closed and sold to Cleveland County Council who developed the site into a commercial airport. Queen Margaritha of Sweden opened the international passenger terminal in 1966. The airport has since been developed as a regional airport for the North East of England, and has expanded successfully ever since.
