East 17
East 17 was a United Kingdom based boy band from the 1990s who had a short lived career. Despite a string of UK top ten hits, the band's singer Brian Harvey was engulfed in a drug controversy, when he claimed he took 12 Ecstasy pills in one night (this went against the boy band image of the band). He claimed that ecstasy "can make you a better person". There was a huge media uproar, with questions being asked in the House of Commons, and the career of the band was killed dead on the spot. However, they attempted a comeback in 1998 under the name of E17, but after two more singles, their career was truly over.
The name comes from the Post-code for Walthamstow, in the area of London between the Old East End and the Essex commuter belt.
