Eastern Province, Kenya
The Eastern Province of Kenya is one of seven regions of the country. Its northern boundary is with Ethiopia; The North Eastern and Coast provinces lie to the east and south; and the remainder of Kenya's provinces run along its western border.The provincial capital is Embu .
It is principally inhabited by the Kamba and several pastoralist communities. In 1979 its population was 2.7 million; in 1999, 4.6 million.
Georgraphy
The eastern half of Lake Turkana (Lake Rudolf renamed) is within the province; as is the Chalbi Desert and Mount Kenya. The climate is arid to semi arid.
Districts
There are thirteen districts in the Eastern Province:
- Embu
- Isiolo
- Kitui
- Machakos
- Makueni
- Marsarbit
- Mbere
- Meru - divided into three districts: Central, North and South
- Moyale
- Miringi
- Tharaka
