Eclipse Comics

Eclipse Comics was an independent American comic book publisher in the 1980s. The company is now defunct. Founded by brothers Jan and Dean Mullaney in the late 1970s, they published the first American Graphic Novel entitled Sabre by Don McGregor and Paul Gulacy. They had early success with the title, Ms. Tree.

The company moved from Long Island, NY to Sonoma County, California in the early 1980s where they expanded their operations after hiring editor cat yronwode. Eclipse was known for their eclectic mix of titles and products and was the first comics company to publish trading cards. Many major talents got their start there including Scott McCloud, Tim Truman , Chris Ware, James Hudnall, Dan Brereton , and Chuck Austen.

In 1989, Eclipse lost most of their stock of back issues in a flood.
