Edinburgh Academy
The Edinburgh Academy is a private school that was founded in 1824 to stimulate classical learning in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Academy building, with its Greek Doric frontage, was designed by architect William Burn. The school is situated in the New Town.
Pupils of note include:
- Sir James Hector, explorer and member of the Palliser Expedition.
- Fleeming Jenkin, professor of engineering.
- James Clerk Maxwell, physicist.
- Archibald Campbell Tait, who became Archbishop of Canterbury.
- Peter Guthrie Tait, physicist.
- George Younger, 1st Viscount Younger of Leckie.
- Robert Louis Stevenson, writer.
