Edward Travis

Sir Edward Wilfred Harry Travis (24 September 188823 April 1956) was a cryptographer, becoming the director of Bletchley Park during World War II.

Travis joined the Navy in 1906, and served on the HMS Iron Duke. In 1925 he had become the deputy head of the Government Code and Cypher School, GC&CS. Travis was appointed director of GC&CS in March 1994, although he had been effectively the head of Bletchley Park from February 1942. Travis remained in his post as director until 15 April 1952.
