Regal Entertainment Group

(Redirected from Edwards Theatres)

Regal Entertainment Group is North America's largest movie theater chain, operating 6,119 screens in 562 locations in 39 states. It was founded in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1999, out of the wreckage of several smaller chains that had gone bankrupt at the end of the megaplex building binge of the mid-1990s.

It currently operates the following movie theatre chains:

  • Edwards Theatres
  • Regal Cinemas
  • United Artists Theatres
  • Signature Theatres

In 2003, The Regal 2wenty: Entertainment Ignited, a programmed preview of upcoming film and video releases, was introduced in the United States. It replaced the pre-feature film slide show of advertisements and trivia set to various elevator music-like songs, It is somewhat reminiscent of the newsreels of the classic film era, except that it focuses completely on paid advertising; something newsreels did only a fraction of the time.
