Egbert, Ontario
Egbert is a very small hamlet with a population of less than 100 people located in Essa Township in the County of Simcoe in the province of Ontario. It is located about 100 kilometers northwest of Toronto and about 10 kilometers northeast of Alliston Ontario and about 8 kilometers northwest of Cookstown. Located at the intersection of Essa Township sideroad 10 and concession 10, the area was largely settled by settlers from Northern Ireland in the 1840's. It once had a general store and a church. Both are now closed. It is best known as the home, since 1988, for the Centre for Atmospheric Resarch into the Environment operated by the Canadian federal government's environmental ministry, Environment Canada. The facility is located to the east of Egbert between the seventh and eighth concessions of Essa Township .
