Launched in October 1998 by the Prudential in the UK, Egg rapidly expanded on the back of market leading savings rates and, in 1999, the launch of the Egg Card, a market leading credit card.
Wihtin 6 months the company had reached it's 5 year business plan, and in the face of stock market dom and gloom, floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2000.
It claims to be the world's largest pure online bank, with over 3.5 million customers and not a single branch.
