Elections in Singapore
Elections in Singapore gives information on election and election results in Singapore.
Singapore elects on national level a head of state (the president) and a legislature. The president is elected for a six year term by the people. For the last presidential elections (24 august 1999) only one candidate was declared eligible. The Parliament has 93 members, 84 members elected for a five year term in single-seat and multi-seat constituencies and 9 members appointed by the president. Singapore is a one party dominant state with the People's Action Party in power. Opposition parties are allowed, but are widely considered to have no real chance of gaining power.
