Elections in the Central African Republic

Elections in Central African Republic gives information on election and election results in Central African Republic. An election is a process in which a vote is held to elect candidates to an office. It is the mechanism by which a democracy fills elective offices in the legislature, and sometimes the executive and judiciary, and in which electorates choose local government officials.

See election for a more comprehensive discussion and the List of democracy and elections-related topics for an overview on related topics.

Ange-Félix Patassé of the Movement for the Liberation of the Central African People won multiparty presidential elections in September 1993 and September 1999. He was deposed by the current president, François Bozizé, in March 2003. The country is now in a transitional period due to end with presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for March 13, 2005, in which Bozizé is running but from which Patassé is barred. A new constitution was approved by voters in a referendum on December 5, 2004.
