Ange-Félix Patassé of the Movement for the Liberation of the Central African People won multiparty presidential elections in September 1993 and September 1999. He was deposed by the current president, François Bozizé, in March 2003. The country is now in a transitional period due to end with presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for March 13, 2005, in which Bozizé is running but from which Patassé is barred. A new constitution was approved by voters in a referendum on December 5, 2004.
