Elf deck

An elf deck is a deck of Magic: The Gathering cards built around elven-type creature cards. The archetype has managed to stay strong throughout the many sets and iterations that the game has gone through, with elf decks appearing in casual play very often.

The main premise is that the player uses small, cheap elves to gain a speed advantage in the early game against an opponent, then as the game progresses, "pump" the smaller elves to deliver finishing blows and remove the last of the opponent's life points. With some older decks, this can only take a few turns; most decks, however, are a little slower.

One standby for years in the elf deck was the "Llanowar Elf", a 1/1 creature for one green mana, that generated a green mana when tapped. this allowed decks to develop a much faster early game, as they were able to generate mana much faster than their opponent. However, with 8th Edition , Wizards of the Coast did not reprint the card, slowing traditional elf decks down in the early game.
