Eliseo Soriano
Brother Eliseo Soriano Y Fernando is the presiding Minister of the Members Church of God International, a Christian religion in the Philippines. He hosts Ang Dating Daan, a radio-television program produced by the Church of God International.
He was born on April 4, 1947 as the son of Triunfo Soriano and Catalina Fernando in Pasay City, Manila and is the seventh of eight children. As a child, Bro. Eli was very shy. He was not fond of mingling with other people, save for his family. Because of this, he entered school at a later age. His parents tried hard to convince him to go to school. He finally did—at the age of eight—but skipped his classes and escaped his teachers. He showed good academic performance and was elected president of the student council and was chosen as assistant principal by their school directress when he was on his high school.
However, he did not finish high school, and three months before graduation devoted his life to study the bible. In April 7, 1964, exactly three days after his 17th birthday, Brother Eli was baptized in Seneguelasan, Bacoor, Cavite, and became an official member of the Church of God in Christ Jesus.
In 1969, Brother Nicolas Perez, who was then the church’s presiding minister, made Brother Eli the sole recipient of the title minister—thus making him the only minister in the Church that time. It was clear then that the aging leader was grooming his young protégé for a future responsibility. He started the radio and TV program Ang Dating Daan in 1983. Brother Eli also wrote and authored Leaving behind the Fundamental Doctrines of Christ, which was his first and only book written in English published in the late 90s.
