Elk River (British Columbia)
The Elk River is a 119-mile river, originating in the Rocky Mountains of eastern British Columbia, Canada. It flows through the Elk Valley in a southwesterly direction, joining the Kootenay River (here the Lake Koocanusa reservoir) just north of the British Columbia-Montana border. The Elk is part of the Columbia Basin, and runs through the communities of Elkford , Sparwood, Hosmer , Fernie, and Elko . Major tributaries are the Fording River , Michel Creek , Coal Creek, Lizard Creek and the Wigwam River .
