Encyclopedia of Life Sciences

The Encyclopedia of Life Sciences is an encyclopedia of biology published in paper and online by Nature Publishing Group .

Overview

ELS has both a 20-volume print edition and an online edition. The online edition was launched in April 2004, with the print edition appearing in January 2002.

Articles are written by academics in their respective fields. As of November 2004, it contained almost 3000 articles, of which 470 had been added since its inception and 566 of which had been revised. Full access requires a subscription, though "free article of the week" is available, linked to a relevant Nature story.
