Englischer Garten
The Englischer Garten or "English Garden" is a large park in central Munich, Germany. It was founded in 1789 by Benjamin Thompson also known as Count Rumford. With an area covering nearly 4 km² the Englischer Garten is one of the world's largest city parks. English refers to the type of garden; an English garden is made to look like unplanned wildnerness with meandering paths.
The Englischer Garten houses several natural and man-made attractions:
- Kleinhesseloher See
- Japanische Teehaus ("Japanese Tea House"): a japanese style tea house
- Monopterus: a small Greek style temple built by Leo von Klenze
- Schoenfeldwiese: a public outdoor nudist area
- Chinesischer Turm ("Chinese Pagoda") with beer garden
- Aumeister: traditonal beer garden
