Etihad Airways


Etihad Airways is the National Airline of the United Arab Emirates. The airline hub is at Abu Dhabi International Airport. It started operations on November 13, 2003 and in December 2004 won the 'World's Leading New Airline Award' at the 11th World Travel Awards in Barbados.

A cargo division has also been established, Etihad Crystal Cargo , and on 3 February 2005 it inaugurated the all-cargo service with its first-ever commercial cargo flight from Abu Dhabi to Frankfurt.

Etihad Airways operates the following services (at February 2005):

Abu Dhabi to Amman, Bahrain, Bangkok, Beirut, Cairo, Colombo, Damascus, Dammam, Delhi, Geneva Karachi, London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Mumbai, Munich and Riyadh.

Plans are underway to expand the network to Brussels, Doha, Frankfurt and Toronto in 2005

Fleet

The airline fleet consists of the following aircraft (at February 2005):

  • 4 Airbus 330-200
  • 1 Airbus 340-300
  • 1 Boeing 767-300

Etihad Airways has placed orders for four Airbus A380 aircraft for delivery in 2007.

It has also purchased 20 other Airbus aircraft, including four A340-500 (delivery from 2006), four A340-600 (delivery from 2007) and 12 A330-200 (delivery from 2006). The new aircraft will be deployed to further develop its rapidly expanding network in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and North America.

In February 2005, Etihad Airways announced that five Boeing 777-300ER had been ordered and were expected in October-December 2005.
