European Left

The European Left party is a political party at European level and an association of socialist and communist political parties in the European Union.

Together with the Nordic Green Left Alliance (NGLA), it forms the European United Left - Nordic Green Left (EUL/NGL) group of the European Parliament. The french abbreviation of the group GUE/NGL is better known since the french abbreviations are used in and by the European Parliament normally and also easier to prounce for many European tongues.

It was formed in January 2004 for the purposes of running in the 2004 European Parliament elections. It was founded on May 8, 2004 in Rome.
