Ezra Levant
Ezra Levant is a Canadian politician and columnist.
Born in Calgary to Jewish parents, Levant holds a commerce degree from the University of Calgary and an LL.B. from the University of Alberta.
He is considered to be quite right-wing, especially by Canadian standards. He has been fiercely critical of Canadian foreign policy and any anti-American sentiment in Canadian politicians, and is known for his staunch defence of Israel.
In 2002 he attracted attention when he initially refused to resign his nomination for the Canadian Alliance in the riding of Calgary Southwest, so that party leader Stephen Harper could run. After some deliberation, he ultimately opted to resign.
In 2004, Ezra Levant founded the Western Standard, a conservative magazine designed to represent Western Canada and political and social conservatism generally.
Levant has written three books: Youthquake (1996); Fight Kyoto (2002); and The War On Fun (2004).
