Fanny Eleonore Baur

Fanny Baur was an SS Aufseherin in the Dachau concentration camp from 1944 until 1945.

Fanny Eleonore Baur (or Bauer) was born in Augsburg, Germany on October 25, 1922. In August 1944 Dachau opened a female section and needed female guards to oversee the women prisoners, so they began campaigning in Augsburg for future female wardresses. On September 1, 1944, Fanny answered the call and reported to the Dachau concentration camp to undergo a training course. The Aufseherin took well to her new career, and was well known in Dachau as a sadist and nicknamed, "The Prisoners Fright." The female opressor would beat, kick, slap, and whip the women prisoners at roll call and at work. Fanny Baur was the most feared of all the women guards in Dachau. When the Allies liberated the camp they heard story, after story about the abuse they received by the Aufseherin. In mid-April 1945, Fanny left the camp and returned home to Augsburg, Germany. She was never arrested and tried for war crimes she had committed in Dachau.
