Feck
Irish attenuated curse word, used freely in the sitcom Father Ted which has spread its usage among fans of the comedy around the world. "Feck" is often assumed to be cognate of fuck, although it should be noted the word does not carry as much offence, and is quite commonly used in Ireland in the same manner that bugger is used in Australia.
It is in reality, a genuinely Irish word, from a verb meaning, among other things, "to see, to take note of". The interjection "feck" is roughly equivalent to "look at this" or "see here!" Compare the term "feckless", which means "without a care or thought to the consequences", or in a word, short-sighted (quite literally "feck"-less).
"Feck" is a rare example of the euphemism being more expressive and satisfying to say than the curse word it replaces. The brevity of the vowel increases the sharpness of the end consonants making "feck" a very satisfying interjection.
Also an archaic shortening of 'effect'.
As a parody of French Connection's fcuk label, "Fcek - Irish Connection" has been seen on t-shirts.
