Federally funded research and development center
Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs) conduct research for the federal government. They are administered by universities and corporations.
Well-known ones include:
- Jet Propulsion Laboratory, administered by Caltech for NASA
- Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, administered by the University of California for the DOE
- Los Alamos National Laboratory, administered by the University of California for the DOE
- Lincoln Laboratory, administered by Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the USAF
- Center for Naval Analyses
Many of the laboratories categorized by the DOE as a national laboratory are also FFRDCs.
