Fernsehturm Dresden-Wachwitz
The TV tower in Dresden stands on the Wachwitzer in such a way specified Elbhoehen and serves as transmitting tower for television and broadcast. Construction
The architects of the Dresdner TV tower Kurt Nowotny, Hermann Ruehle and Johannes brown one were inspired to its cup-like form by a sparkling wine glass. The tower was built between 1963 and 1969. It is 252 meters high and was after the citizen of Berlin TV tower (368 m) second highest building of the GDR. The shank of the building consists of reinforced concrete and has a diameter of 21 meters, which is embodied in the soil into six meters of depth in the Lausitzer granite. Radio engineering
On 18 September 1969 began to transmit the tower. It possesses four transmission mechanisms for the broadcast over UKW and three transmitters for the television. In the year 2003 there was a smaller fire, which could be brought fortunately rapidly under control in the transmitting rooms.
Tourism
Up to the renovation in the year 1991 by the Telekom and the failure of the last tenant of the tower cafe (HO restaurant) one could reach the tower cafe by two elevators. Within the visitor range there was a two-story tower restaurant with 132 places in 145 m to height and a lying prospect platform from which one could look as from a balcony into the depth. Came annually around the 200,000 visitors around the prospect over the Elbtal with Dresden to enjoy. Since a reorganization of the elevator plant and the restaurant would cost about three to four million euro, so far still no investor with a concept eligible for financing could be found. An economical enterprise is possible only with 500.000 visitor/year.
