Frank Arthur Calder
Frank Arthur Calder (born August 3, 1915) is a Canadian politician and the first status Indian to be elected to any Canadian parliament.
Born in Nass Harbour, British Columbia , Calder is a member of the Nisga'a. Calder was the first Indian to graduate from the Anglican Theological College of the University of British Columbia. In 1949, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia for the riding of Atlin and served for 26 years.
Honours
- 1987 - he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.
- Awarded the Aboriginal Order of Canada.
- 2004 - he was awarded the Order of British Columbia.
