Frantisek Planicka
Frantisek Planicka (June 2, 1904 - July 20, 1996) was a Czech football goalkeeper.
One of the most honoured players in the history of football in Czechoslovakia, Planicka won the league nine times with Slavia Prague, won the domestic cup six times and was a winner of the Mitropa Cup in 1938.
Between 1925 and 1938, Planicka played 74 times in goal for Czechoslovakia and was considered one of the finest European goalkeepers of his era. In the 1938 World Cup, Planicka stayed on the field despite having suffered a broken arm, quite a damaging injury for a goalkeeper!
In over 1,000 games, Planicka never received a yellow card and was awarded the Czech Fair Play Award in 1994 to go with the UNESCO International Fair Play Award he received in 1984.
At the time of his death, at the age of 92, Planicka was the last living member of the Czechoslovak team that finished as runners-up in the 1934 World Cup.
