Franz Abt
Franz Wilhelm Abt (22 December 1819 - 31 March 1885) was a German composer.
He was born at Eilenburg in Saxony, and showed musical talent early; he was enrolled in the Thomas School at Leipzig, and published his first works in that city.
He was kapellmeister at Bernburg in 1841, then moved to Zürich in that year, and was at Brunswick from 1852 to 1882. He retired to Wiesbaden, and died there in 1885.
He composed over 500 pieces during his lifetime, his songs being most popular.
