(Jean) Frédéric Bazille (December 6, 1841November 28, 1870) was an Impressionist painter and soldier.

Born in Montpellier, Hérault, France, into a middle-class Protestant family, Bazille began studying medicine in 1862, when he met Pierre-Auguste Renoir and was drawn to the Impressionist movement.

Bazille is best known for his depiction of figures and was only 23 years old when he painted several famous works, including The Pink Dress. His most famous work is a Family Reunion (1867-1868). His friends included Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley, and Edouard Manet. Born to a wealthy family, Bazille was able to support some of these artists, giving them space in his studio and materials to use.

Frédéric Bazille's career was cut short when he was killed in action in Beaune-la-Rolande , Loiret during the Franco-Prussian War.
