Frederick W. Smith
Frederick W. Smith (1944 - ) is the founder of Federal Express, or FedEx, the largest overnight express delivery company in the United States. The company is based in Memphis, Tennessee.
Biography
Fred Smith was born in Marks, MS and graduated from Yale University in 1966. He then served in the US Marine Corps for five years as a platoon leader and pilot, where he observed the military's logistics system. Smith founded Federal Express in 1971 and began company operations in 1973.
