Free group factors isomorphism problem
Free group factors isomorphism problem is a mathematical question which asks if von Neumann algebras associated to free groups (which are important examples of factors) are isomorphic for different numbers of generators. Free group factors isomorphism problem remains open until today and is regarded as an important problem of the operator algebras theory. This problem was a starting point of free probability theory.
