Fremantle Football Club
The Fremantle Football Club, nicknamed The Dockers, are one of 16 teams in the Australian Football League. The club is based in the port city of Fremantle, west of Perth at the mouth of the Swan River.
The team joined the league in 1995 as the Fremantle Dockers, eight years after their rival Western Australian football team (the West Coast Eagles), and endured some tough years near the bottom of the premiership ladder before finishing fifth after the home-and-away rounds in 2003, making the finals for the first time.
The team's home base is at Fremantle Oval , while most of their home games are played at Subiaco Oval.
The name for the team changed after Levi Strauss & Co., which produces Dockers brand clothing, challenged the clubs right to use the name.
Also commonly known as "Freo", the team's colours are red, green and purple. Its emblem, an anchor, reflects the city's strong maritime links. A unique feature of Fremantle home games occurs during the pre-match entertainment, a symbolic "anchor" is hauled on to the field as the club song is played.
